Search engine optimization and page rank Search engine optimization and page rank are guidelines whose correct implementation enables the Google search engine to locate, catalog, and assign page position in its search results on the internet. The web designers must adhere to the design and content, technical and quality guidelines issued by Google. The website should be well planned with clear chain of material and text links. Each web page should have at least one text link connected to it. Each website should contain a site map outlining the crucial material on the website. The website map may be of a single webpage or multiple web pages. On each webpage the number of text lines must be not be excessive. The website should be full of valuable information and the content must be accurate. The keywords leading the web users to the page must be accurate contextually with its content. Often software wrongly copy the words in the search engine and replicate the same in the website headlines leading to a total mismatch between the actual content in the website and the user’s requirements. By and large words instead of pictures ought to be used as links but in exceptional cases “ALT” may be used to provide brief and accurate description of the picture. To examine the technical aspects of a website the text browser “Lynx” may be used to judge its effectiveness. Bots may be enabled to creep all over the website to see the behavior of individual users. Regular up-dating of the website will only be recorded by Google if the web server supports If-Modified-Since-HTTP header. The robots.txt file may be tested with the robots.txt analysis tool in Google webmaster tools so that Google AdSense ads and DoubleClick links are not blocked by the robots.txt file. Finally, use of illegal methods to gain page rank forces Google to punish by removing the website from the Google search results not only on the Google website but also its other partner websites. |
